Village "30"
Good News!
We are extremmely pleased to tell everyone that we have gained our Village '30' status. The average speeds through the Village on the recent testing were: A272 - 42 mph and C28 (East Meon) road - 33mph. Well done eveyone.
Hampshire County Council (Highways division) will be completing the kerbing around Langrish Village Green, improving various drains and ditches, including the one outside the Church and making good potholes and subsidence on the junction of the C28 and A272 . This will start in 2-3 weeks time and take a week or two. Traffic will be controlled by lights. When this is finished, the A272 from Yew Tree Cottage to the far side of Langrish Hill will be completely resurfaced. This will entail NIGHT-CLOSURES of the road. These should be advertised by warning notices along the road - so watch out for them. The A272 has been 'top-dressed from Langrish Hill through to Ridge Common Lane in Stroud.
Burglaries
There were 2 burglaries in Langrish on Saturday night (6th September). The thieves obviously knew what they were looking for. If you see or hear anything suspicious (unknown cars parked in unusual places or strangers wandering around), please report it, particularly if it is at night. We have been told that we can dial 999 in these circumstances. If you do, it speeds up the process if you give your postcode rather than your address.
East Meon Post Office
This remains in business as a sub-post office (of Droxford). Letters and parcels can be posted at any time during normal shop opening hours. Other business is more restricted than previously but for simple things it means that we do not have to go and queue for a long time in Petersfield!
Future events
Langrish and Ramsdean Friends
On November 6th we enjoyed supper at the Langrish House Hotel, followd by a talk by the Rev David Heatley on the subject of "Country Parsons". He traced their role and life from the time of the introduction of Christianity in the country, pointing out their varied background and level of education. The Rector enjoyed the benefit of tythes. but were over the years very often absentees, leaving their duties to Vicars. He quoted frm various outstanding writers from the profession - another diverting and enjoyable evening for the Friends.

Marjorie Day's "Langrish Walk" was also much appreciated and enjoyed, and we hope that this may become an annual event.
PARISH COUNCIL & COMMUNITY NEWS
The Parish Council now meets every two months. All meetings, which are held at Langrish House Hotel are open to the Public. The agenda for every meeting is posted on the notice-boards on Langrish and Ramsden Village Greens a week before the next meeting.
The Parish Council met on 14th January 2008. Progress with Langrish Meadow and traffic issues again dominated the discussions.
The Parish Council is very pleased to announce that we have just been given over £8,000, released by EHDC from its Developer Contributions, to start work on levelling the ground of Langrish Meadow. It is unlikely that this will begin until the weather is better as a lot of earth has to be moved. A further grant of £3,000 from HCC via our County Counsellor, Sam Payne’s Members Devolved Budget may also be available for ongoing work after the site has been prepared.
Noticeboards
We should like to thank John Harris very much indeed for the splendid new noticeboards that he has made for the Parish, one at Langrish and one at Ramsdean - both much admired..

The Parish Council would like to remind everyone that as well as being the first (i.e. lowest) tier of government, it is your immediate and direct contact for concerns and enquiries. It urges you to bring matters of public interest to its notice, so that they may be channelled upward to the higher levels of government. It would be a tragedy if this important role, that has existed since Anglo-Saxon times, were lost. It is certainly under threat with the establishment of Regional Assemblies, which have already taken place
Church News

From the Registers
The Parish Church, a Grade II Victorian building, designed by Ewan Christian, lies on the south side of the A272 at the western end of the village. It is a simple building, with nave, north aisle and chancel, and contains some interesting Victorian stained glass and monuments to local people.
The church is open for private prayer during daylight hours, and is accessible to a wheel-chair user. Wheelchair users wishing to visit the church may find it more convenient to park at the village green (on the East Meon road) and use the footpath to the church (about 100 metres).
Sunday worship takes place on the following days in the month:
1st Sunday 9.00 a.m. Parish Eucharist (Order One)
2nd Sunday 9.00 a.m. Parish Eucharist (Order One)
3rd Sunday 10.45 a.m. Family Service
4th Sunday 9.00 a.m. Parish Eucharist (Order One)
Times of 5th Sunday services vary, but are posted on the board at the lych-gate.
There is a short service of prayer every Friday at 9.30 a.m.
Enquiries about baptisms, banns of marriage and weddings should me made to the Vicar, Canon Terry Louden, at
The church is supported by the Langrish and Ramsdean Friends, who meet for social and community interests.
An Annual Fete is organised each summer.
The church and its small regular congregation wish to serve the village community. Members of other Christian traditions are welcome at Sunday worship. There is a long-term plan to adapt part of the interior of the building to form a meeting-room, with toilet and kitchenette.
The church is linked with the Good Shepherd Anglican Church, Jameso Nkwanta, in the Diocese of Cape Coast, in Ghana. The Vicar was a member of a local group of Christians who visited Ghana in 2003.
